Labor proposing car emissions standards. BOConnorMP: We have to catch up with the rest of the world, this is a reasonable target. We are not forcing people to give up their own vehicle, just providing that choice which is lacking now. MORE: amagenda

FULL INTERVIEW: Liberal MP Craig Kelly has labelled the Opposition's electric vehicle policy 'complete and utter madness', arguing that it will 'cost the economy billions'. Labor has said if its elected, it will aim to have electric vehicles make up 50 per cent of new car sales by 2030.

Mr Kelly says there is 'no place less suitable' for electric cars than Australia when the nation's energy grids are coal-fired and 'will be for years to come'. Electric vehicles in Australia, Mr Kelly says, would be essentially charged on coal-fired power and would ultimately 'increase CO2 emissions', which Labor also plans to reduce by 45 per cent.

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Libs claims so ridiculous, voters just brush it off. When they say Labor's ClimateAction policies 'will cut your wages $9,000 pa', voters laugh as they know Labor will increase wages. And now 'they're coming after your ute' - hilarious! emissions ElectricVehicles auspol

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Labor have opened themselves to this attack because the Liberals are desperately trying to turn nothing into something, and they’re always backed by Murdoch regardless

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp They've been out explaining it daily. It's in their environmental policy document that no commentator on sky seems to have bothered reading.

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Can someone ask AustralianLabor wether they will tax ICE vehicles?

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp And how are libs going to reach the same target it is after all the same policy

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Is this flawed electric car policy document part of the ALP National Convention policy document or a questionable one of Shorten's.

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Thing I don't get is, where are the sagely-nodding heads around the political errors in Coalition's 25-50% EV target for 2030? Are we just assuming they never meant it to happen, so they deserve no criticism either?

Gallo_Ways billshortenmp Perhaps Shorten needs to focus on other major issues facing Australians rather going to the election with a badly flawed policy and yet, where's the material coming from to build batteries for electric cars. How many recharging stations will be along the Bruce highway & others?

Labor’s electric car target is 'not realistic at all': Sharma | Sky News AustraliaDave Sharma is warning against Labor's 50 per cent electric car target, saying a transition to electric vehicles ‘should be driven by consumer behaviour and preferences’, not forced by politicians. \n\nLabor has committed to ensuring half the nation’s new cars are electric by 2030, a policy that the Liberal Candidate for Wentworth believes is ‘not realistic at all’.\n\nWhile Mr Sharma says he hopes to see Australia move towards a lower-carbon future, he believes the country and its leaders needs to ‘be practical and responsible in how we go about doing this’. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Not forced. It's only a target of 50% new sales by 2030. It's very very similar to the coalition's policy on EVs. What government should do is work on infrastructure. Despite the moaning by the coalition in the last week, they themselves have been funding charging infrastructure what if nobody buys them? Oh of course, a carbon dioxide tax on petrol and diesel cars, trucks etc for this giant hoax This is a perfect example of a liberal politician thinking that sitting on their hands is a perfect climate change plan.
