Grant Shapps has been appointed the new defence secretary following the expected resignation of Ben Wallace.

Unlike many of his Tory colleagues, he is not a product of a public school and a top university. He was educated at Watford Grammar School and Manchester Polytechnic. Under the new system, a finding of gross misconduct will automatically result in a police officer's dismissal unless there are exceptional circumstances. Professor Chris Goodier, of Loughborough University, has explained that it is RAAC from the 1950s to 70s that is the"main concern". The type of concrete forcing building closures is Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, known as RAAC, which is prone to collapse. "Pupil safety is paramount but for this to come out just days before term starts is totally unacceptable.
