Edged Energy will build a 24-megawatt data center in Irving geared toward sustainability.

The data center will be built for high-density artificial intelligence. It will be located east of Highway 12 and south of Highway 183 at 505 North Wildwood Drive.Edged incorporates an approach that requires less water than typical data centers, utilizing a waterless cooling system. It expects to use 95 million fewer gallons of water annually compared to typical data centers.The company, which is part of Darien, Conn.

A handful of other data center projects are underway in Irving. QTS Realty Trust, a data center operator based in Kansas, continues to expand its footprint in the region after purchasing a former Hitachi semiconductor plant in 2014 and converting it into a massive data center campus. “This project is a major vote of confidence in Irving as a destination for the data infrastructure needed to keep our current and future digital economy moving,” said Beth A.
