It is nice to see that the University of Texas at Arlington is receiving federal aid to help six students a year go through its special education teacher training program. Unfortunately, the story makes it clear that this initiative will barely make a ripple in the pond of need for special ed teachers, given that there are 36,110 special ed teachers in Texas currently and a teacher-student ratio of 1:19.
Data shows that new construction expands the footprint of mass incarceration. Once these beds exist, there will always be pressure to fill them. We all want to see Texas children thrive, but new child prisons will only perpetuate the failures of youth incarceration at a great fiscal and human cost.I agree that we must prioritize the use of energy innovations that produce an environmentally friendly future. 1. Acknowledge our lethal, very costly and inconvenient reality of global warming events arising from centuries of accumulated fossil fuel emissions. 2.
