CPS Energy will soon add 1,710 megawatts of natural gas-fired generating capacity through a $785 million deal to acquire three plant sites in Laredo and Corpus Christi from Talen Energy. The deal includes two plants in Corpus Christi: Talen’s 897-megawatt Barney Davis Power Plant and its 635-megawatt Nueces Bay Power Plant. The city-owned utility is also acquiring a 178-megawatt plant in Laredo. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the second quarter.

Together, they employ 65 people. CPS says the workers will have the option to become CPS employees after the deal closes.
