There is little evidence to suggest Australia is acting effectively to mitigate the multiple heat-related risks for physical and mental health, a new major report has warned | rachelclun

Australian researchers from the international consortium of 120 experts from 35 institutions urged the government to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

“What we’re seeing with the fires we’ve just had, and you get that from all bushfires, is the air pollution that comes from fires puts people at risk of respiratory illness - particularly those suffering from underlying conditions,” Professor Hilary Bambrick, a co-author of the paper and Queensland University of Technology environmental epidemiologist, said.

People who lost their homes to bushfires also faced significant mental health risks, Professor Bambrick said.chapter Macquarie University Associate Professor Paul Beggs said Australians were increasingly vulnerable to heat-related risks of climate change. A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said the government was taking "real and meaningful action" to reduce global emissions with the $3.5 billion Climate Solutions Package to meet the 2030 Paris target.

rachelclun What do you suggest? There is no shield around us. CLIMATE related deaths have reduced 98% in 80 years. Thanks to the progress derived from fossil fuel energy - fossil fuels don’t make a safe climate dangerous, they make a dangerous climate safe.

rachelclun GregHuntMP needs to spend a week in fire ravaged communities to experience first hand exactly what conditions are like. My town of Forster Tuncurry has endured at nearly 3 weeks of fires and dense smoke that is seriously impacting on the health and wellbeing of the community.

SBS News @SBSNewsWatch now as former Australian fire chiefs unite to demand the government act now against the 'urgent threat' of climate change What a bunch of radical, inner-city lefties. Voices of sanity. ScottMorrisonMP will be mightily pissed off. Climate change didn't start these fires. Not allowing safe fuel reduction burns in winter is more of a possible cause than climate change. Climate change is no where near as bad as saint Greta and fellow extremists want you to believe.

'It's like a genie taking form before our eyes': Fire, prescribed burning and climate changeThere's been a lot of debate in recent days about bushfires and questioning the influence of climate change, but what do scientists have to say? I think it's Greta's fault. She's in charge of climate, why hasn't she fixed it yet? Leftards, they're all the same … Again, another near-miss from the ABC and their academic contributors who failed to mention what proportion of fires in this event were lit by humans. It's pointless to talk about secondary factors that lead to fire behaviour AFTER arson or accidental fires.
