Germany finally pulled the plug on its final three nuclear power plants, amid an energy crisis ravaging Europe.

As of midnight, Germany's smoking towers of Isar 2, Neckarwestheim 2, and Emsland have been closed. They comprised roughly 4,055 megawatts or 6% of Germany's total energy generation, forcing Berlin to hunt for alternatives as energy costs remain high across much of Europe. The use of those facilities was subject to years of internal strife and protest, and Germany ultimately agreed to quit generating power from nuclear reactions during the aftermath of Japan's 2011 Fukushima disaster.

Germany's efforts to close its final nuclear power plants were stymied after Russia's invasion of Ukraine prompted Berlin to cut off fossil fuel imports from Russia. The move caused energy prices to skyrocket and coincided with shortages across Europe. Germany began its foray into nuclear power in 1961 when it commissioned the Kahl reactor. Nuclear energy generates large swaths of power without carbon dioxide emissions, but critics point to its radioactive waste product that can be harmful to the environment.

Ridiculous

Oh, and German electric bills are going up another 45 percent.

Fools!

Time to shut down coal plants next. And eventually just go back to Nature

Stupid? Ya can't power those electric cars by daylight alone.

Thank you Germany for being the first to show us the errors of woke energy policy. When Germany goes bad they do it on a colossal scale.

You 'forgot' to mention they've turned the COAL PLANTS BACK ON! Yea Green Twats!

It doesn’t look good for people trying to live a modern life. Time to go back to caves and wood fires.

Idiots

Dummkopf!

Very foolish

Greta still won't be happy. The Swedish twit is still going to keep irritating you until you're in horse draw carts again. But remember, no ox carts, oxen fart methane gas. Though bullshit is a better fertilizer.

Insanity.

Nuclear energy is the only viable answer to clean, reliable power !!!

Breaking: 'Germany shoots itself in what's left of its foot.'

That's a shame. Nuclear energy is safer and more cost-effective than fossil fuels such as coal and gas. It's one of the cleanest and most inexpensive energy sources on earth. It is an effective source of energy. Nuclear energy is the future.

Goodbye Germany

Powering down: Germany's last nuclear plants in final hoursGermany has begun winding down its three remaining nuclear power plants as part of a long-planned transition toward renewable energy. The shutdown of the reactors Emsland, Neckarwestheim II and Isar II on Saturday was being closely watched abroad. Other industrialized countries, such as the United States, Japan, China, France and Britain, are counting on nuclear energy to replace planet-warming fossil fuels. Germany’s decision to stop using both has met some skepticism. Defenders of atomic energy say fossil fuels should be phased out first as part of global efforts to curb climate change, arguing that nuclear power produces far fewer greenhouse gas emissions. They fired their coal back up... last time I checked, they'd had 2 gas pipelines from Russia. If it wasn't for Putin stupid invasion Germany they would have gutted their nuclear for natural gas. The dumbest move the Germans have ever made. And over the past century or so they made a number of missteps.

Germany ends nuclear power era, shuts down last of its plantsGermany’s anti-nuclear movement fought for this moment for decades. But it comes as the U.S. and other countries have renewed interest in nuclear energy. Stephen Hawking famously said, 'Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. ' Yeah whatever, 2 new nuclear plants in the US since TMI and they aren't even fully online yet (Vogtle 3&4). Too $$$$$ Moving back to coal? You can't run a theme park on renewables so how are they energizing their country?

Germany Shuts Down Its Last Nuclear Power ReactorsEurope’s largest economy is the third nation to quit atomic energy, choosing coal over fission in a struggle with high stakes for climate change and geopolitics. Coal. Over fission. For climate change. What. The fuck. Germany hates their own people. And progressives will be the downfall of civilization. Biden is making big oil and coal cool again
