Germany’s anti-nuclear movement fought for this moment for decades. But it comes as the U.S. and other countries have renewed interest in nuclear energy.

In Poland, construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant is due to get underway in 2026, and could take between 10 and 15 years.“In that time, we could increase the share of renewables in Germany by up to 80 to 95 percent,” said Claudia Kemfert, an economist at the German Institute for Economic Research.

The last three plants made up a tiny part of the country’s power production. Between 2000 and 2021, the contribution of nuclear power to the Germany energy mix shrunk. By October 2022, nuclear power provided just 6 percent of the country’s electricity.

Good luck with that.

It’s as if the globalists want to destroy Germany? Or maybe they need German yo support Russia and break ties with the US? This looks like more Machiavellian scheming and probably Malthusian scheming.

They should. Who has the courage to say goodbye to this stone-age technology? This is real pioneering work.

Good...we still have plenty of cheap coal.

I thought Germans were smart?

Ukraine tells us that nuclear plants make great targets for our enemies.

Germans choose to self-immolate in new and creative ways every half-century…

Big mistake. Nuclear is the least carbon emitting form of generating electricity and is safer than all but solar. We should be building a new generation of modular reactors worldwide, not shutting them down.

0Thessa Once again it is our historic role to show the world how NOT to do things. I hope the rest of the world will learn from our mistakes because we, apparently, can’t.

That's just stupid.

Using coal and gas until renewables are sufficiently developed is certainly better than nuclear. Typical German logic. For me the wrong decision.

Most Germans are against ending nuclear power plants

Moving back to coal? You can't run a theme park on renewables so how are they energizing their country?

Stephen Hawking famously said, 'Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. '

Yeah whatever, 2 new nuclear plants in the US since TMI and they aren't even fully online yet (Vogtle 3&4). Too $$$$$
