As a push to educate Northeast Florida on the value of electric vehicles, JEA hosted a ride-and-drive event Saturday afternoon.

The free event at the University of North Florida was created to educate people about electric vehicles while promoting initiatives that improve air quality in Northeast Florida.

JEA Electrification Manager Dave McKee said the event had an amazing turnout with at least 500 people pre-registering and well over that amount showing up. Mike LaBrie said he’s a new electric vehicle owner and has already made two road trips from South Florida, including today. Although electric vehicles can have a higher upfront cost, McKee said there are some better pay-offs down the line.

Don’t want one and don’t want it forced on me.

nope, ill enjoy my turbocharged and supercharged gas guzzling cars all day!

I recently took a 1500 mile trip. Rarely did I see charging stations. The electrification phase is very early on and not viable for most people. As stated above, the mining of cobalt/lithium is too much of a safety hazard as well. Quit pushing for this and let it happen naturally.

These cars a vanity purchases. they still run on fossil fule and hurt the environment 100xs more than a gas-powered car ever could.

The government can control your movement. Big scam. Another reason they are raising gas prices. No reason for it.

Educating on only the things they want the customer to know about, not everything that goes involved with creating these electric vehicles and the mining

It's terrible for the environment

Cobalt is mined by slave labor in Africa, under the most dangerous and sickening conditions imaginable. Children die in the mines everyday. Cobalt is used in every lithium battery. Electric cars are not environmentally friendly. They are a catastrophe. cobaltred

I didn’t see a display on the manufacturing of the batteries for these vehicles, or any older electric vehicles with high mileage proving reliability and cost of maintaining the batteries. I did see some shiny cars that were very attractive. I like shiny things
