Power slowly returning in Wildwood after substation fire, no timetable on full restoration

During an interview on FOX 29 News at 5, North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello said AC Electric had started restoring power to some customers but didn't share a timetable for full restoration.

An update from the North Wildwood Police Department said A.C. Electric expects to restore power for roughly 15,000 customers Friday night, while outages will persist in other areas. The outage comes as temperatures soared into the 90s, creating potentially dangerous and inescapable heat specifically for the elderly and those with medical conditions.

"We're prepared to deal with this as long as it goes on, we're just hopeful it doesn't go on too long," Rosenello said. Atlantic City Electric released a statement Friday afternoon saying the outage was connected to a fire at their Lake Avenue substation that broke out around noon. As a result of the fire, the company shut down the station, which impacted electrical services to about 24,000 customers in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest.
