An electric plant substation fire knocked out power throughout the island of Wildwood -- including on the Jersey Shore destination's boardwalk and at traffic lights -- during a busy summer Friday.
As of 5 p.m. power has been restored to approximately 1,800 residents and crews continue to work on opportunities to reroute electricity to restore service safely for all impacted customers, authorities said. "We currently do not have an estimate on when we will have service restored for all customers, however service is expected to be restored to approximately 15,000 customers later this evening," officials shared in a statement.
They expect outages for some customers to last into tomorrow and Atlantic City Electric said they will communicate with those customers directly.The power went out at approximately noon on July 7, according to authorities.
