On Wednesday, Daily Maverick reported that the government, through its marketing agency, was proposing a 36-month deal, believed to be a sleeve sponsorship, with English Premier League club Tottenham at a cost of R910m over three years.

Daily Maverick reported tourism minister Lindiwe Sisulu's aim was to conclude the deal before the impending cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa potentially removes her from the tourism portfolio.

“The money that's invested in tourism is not the same money that's required for energy. It's not the same amount of money that's required to fix potholes. There are other departments that are dedicated to that and are given that mandate by legislation. He said the deal would bring in more money to the SA economy, and through it, the department would be able to persuade international tourists to travel to SA.

So you want people to visit a country that's always in the dark, nothing works, potholes, crime and corruption? If the country is run properly people will come on their own

What is he saying I am lost

The timing is wrong, not when the funds could be put to better use locally. Your marketing ploy to the tune of 1 billion taxpayers money's has no guarantees.

Its like having an old car with a broken engine standing on tresses in your backyard. So you spend R1000 to shine it thinking people will like to drive around in it.

Maybe all government departments should chip-in to alleviate the energy crisis. Start by using that 1b to put solar-inverter-batery kit subsidies in place for all the businesses in the tourism industry... The rest of the departments should do the same: schools, police stations.

Did this Man really say that? I mean for tourists to come we need electricity, good roads and crime combating.. how the hell will tourist eat in the dark? These thieves in suits really think we are fools

It’s money laundering using sports

It’s part of bigger scheme of things which involve money laundering

This is a new kind of stupid....

This is lazy thinking S.A has energy and water crises how can you welcome guests into your home without essentials in place those are part of his problem as well it’s needed for this people engage on fixing problems that hamper his portfolio work

He's so arrogant, he too full of himself. Very disrespectful of the taxpayers. He thinks that budget is tithing, he can do as he wishes.

So they have to buy the tourists to come?

Sir.......who messed it up?

Am pretty sure his days are numbered at SA Tourism ...

Hey screw this mampara.. there s no spinning tht is going to justify that wasteful expenditure when we have constant blackouts.

Bring tourists to load shedding, potholes and so much crime is crime itself.

Did he have to scream at us though?

His job was to help eradicate the green plants continuing to cover Haartbeespoort dam water. It's one of the most important tourists attraction in the NWP.

Another goofball. Courtesy of Luthuli House.

Oh please. How sanctimonious, it's more about how to fill their pockets. 👎

Signs of absent sober leadership utters such words🤞

what’s the purpose of bringing tourists to darkness? No lights, no water, crime is out of control, no railway lines etc. Fix all this rubbish before you embarrass yourself before the world 🌍. Tourism_gov_za LindiweSisuluSA

Civilized countries attract tourists by building glass bridges and astonishing skyscrapers, not by sponsoring foreign soccer teams Is that what u tell your overseas audience when asked about all these impediments in our society? We live in a global village so all these are known the world over..like we know about their problems. The difference is what brought about all these & what's being done bout them...
