President Joe Biden's first state visit to France aims to highlight the long-standing partnership between the two nations and address pressing global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and climate change.

President Joe Biden is currently on his first state visit to France, often described as America's oldest ally. Biden is highlighting the long history and the current stakes of the partnership at a time when war has returned to the European continent.“Today, I proudly stand with France to support freedom and democracy around the world. That is what this spectacular week is all about,” Biden said in a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.

'All of these European countries that are part of NATO want to make sure they will not face a war that creeps further into Europe from Ukraine, which is why they're so invested in making sure Ukraine succeeds,' said Donatienne Ruy, a fellow with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. 'If Ukraine falls, who knows what is next.
