MELAKA: The state government hopes to tap into the Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution by commercialising the local motorcycle segment together with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Holdings.

UTeM Holdings CEO Datuk Wira Sazali Muhd Din said a memorandum of understanding has been signed with M Vehicle Berhad on Friday to introduce EV motorcycles to the local market.

"EV is also part of our vision to expand the technology-based solutions and products, especially in this motoring sector," he said on Friday . Sazali said EV motorcycles could also reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the National Automotive Policy to make it a mode of transport in the future. The vast majority of these vehicles are being sold in Asia, with China taking up the lion's share of the market.

Meanwhile, Lau said MEVB targets to produce affordable EV motorcycles for students and lower-income groups.
