The move should 'empower' consumers to lower their energy bills

Following the fall in the energy price cap on April 1, thousands of households have started shopping around for the best deal on their gas and electricity. But if you have made the switch and your energy supplier dragged their feet - you could be owed £30.

The energy price cap is not a hard limit on how much customers pay each month, but a cap on the price that energy companies can charge to use their service and per unit of energy used, though this can be higher or lower depending on usage. New rules brought in by Ofgem to encourage energy suppliers to up their customer service give energy companies just five days to swap any household over to another supplier, or they have to automatically pay you £30 for being slow.
