'We've had fires in Australia since time began, and what people need now is a little bit of sympathy, understanding and real assistance - they need help, they need shelter,' The_Nationals leader M_McCormackMP told ABC Radio National.

"They don't need the ravings of some pure, enlightened and woke capital city greenies at this time, when they're trying to save their homes, when in fact they're going out in many cases saving other peoples' homes and leaving their own homes at risk."

"What we are doing is taking real and meaningful action to reduce global emissions without shutting down all our industries," he said. Asked if he was dismissing concerns about climate change, the Deputy Prime Minister said he was not doing that and the government was addressing climate change. However, in response to questions, Mr Bandt said he was not blaming the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for a "particular fire" or a "particular incident" and was arguing the government's role should be to minimise the risk of people losing their lives.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP The Firefighters are doing the best they can, the Red Cross and other aid organisations do the care and support for years after. I was with RC b4 & during Black Saturday & 4 other climate driven disasters since. Country people are pretty woke about climate change too!

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Sympathy, is it the same sympathy Mr Joyce showed the dead by blaming the greens... Stop talking and take action help these people...

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Real assistance: like prevention, by acting on climate change science 20 years ago? Or at the very least acting on it immediately and with full force now, to ensure future disasters like this do not reoccur? That kind of real assistance? Or 'thoughts and prayers'?

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP He's right. As a tiny child I remember being burned out with fires that never stopped. NO fire dept. came to help. We did it all ourselves. But today no one cares, no one learns about the past. It's all mass hysteria because of a made up story of 'climate change'.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Instead of shutting up latte sipping city greenies, why don’t you castigate people who insist on living in fire prone areas. In this day and age of climate change and fire prone bushland, it’s common sense to move away. And how can you expect sympathy after abusing us? 🤬

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Yes and they need money to survive as well, all the government is worried about is having a surplus, get of your arse and help these people. 🤬🤬

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP When will we get real leaders prepared to invest in our long term success and growth as a country and member of our world community? Leaders who are inclusive rather than divisive! Leaders who are visionary rather than reactionary! Think before you vote fellow Australians!

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Pretty clear who the raving lunatic is

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP No we need some serious action on climate change

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Agree you are quite right. But when the weathers cool and the grass is green we don’t tend to focus on discussing bushfires and any trends relating to a permanent change in climate.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Fool

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Thank god someone cares about the bushfire victims, the green are pathetic parasites that should be deported from Australia. Riding on the back of people who have died to make a political point is disgusting

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP I don’t remember fires like this in spring.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP They need the Nats!!

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP People are passed sympathy, they need leadership that will combat climate change. Not listen to an Ignorant fool who has his head in the sand.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Some people just don’t see what is right in front of them

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP I think I know who the “raving, inner city lunatic” is. You, M_McCormackMP , need a large mirror and a good hard look at yourself.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Fires have always happened nothing to do with climate change. We need to better manage the risks. Jumping up and down about climate change does nothing.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Maybe he did but then he tried to create divisions between Australians who care for the land, sea & air. He let his selfish obsession with his own political survival take precedence over leadership & strategic thinking. We really need a Tim Fischer now. NationalFarmers auspol

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Good on him about time a politician showed some metal, greenies can’t hide their delight watching the bush on fire media not far behind

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP More lies. Australia as a seperate continent didn’t exist when time began, also planet earth didn’t exist then.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Not sure why Australians think we make any difference whatsoever. I guess it helps people sleep at night.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Just shows he can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, unlike the rest of us.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP sanctimonius wanker...cut the firies budget and ignore their advice and see what happens...try doing ur over paid job properley... and listen to the people....climate change is REAL and needs ur govts action NOW!

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Who's the lunatic in this report?

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Ok boomer

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP They need quality leadership, which leaves you McCormack, right out of the picture. Resigning, are you ?

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Yes, we had fires before and will have them again but more frequently and more fierce in the future. Govts need to recognize this and be better prepared. Back burning, increasing buffers, etc. Not only knee jerk reaction. abc730 9NewsAUS

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP We've not had fires like this McCormack. What about that do you not understand? Did you sleep well last night? The firies didn't.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Dinosaur What about 'unprecedented' doesn't he understand? We can have sympathy help others and deal with climate change We know who are lunatics are Honestly

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP How any farmer could possibly vote National after this I don’t know.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP What they needed was committed leadership and action on climate change rather than fatuous and puerile ideological Kant.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Imaging being an adult and taking responsibility for your inaction. No one is blaming climate change, they’re just saying it’s contributing the the ever increasing intensity year on year.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP 32 degrees and I'm on the 7th hole and its getting hotter.......should I chance the back 9 in this Global warming heat? Playing not bad either........2 pars in 6 holes.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP too little, too late.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Bloody shameful, a Priminister turns up to offer reassurance and comfort, and a pack of sanctimonious gits hi-jack it. All I am hearing is 'yea. yea about the fires. What about climate change?' Jesus! Give it a rest.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP What surprises me is that climate change affects rural people more yet the nationals are against accepting it? Doesn’t make sense to me - they should be at the forefront on this issue.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Typical politician; diverting the attention so they can keep their head stuck in the sand and do f..k all as usual.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP He’s deflecting from the fact that the government have done sweet eff all to prepare for this fire and drought season

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP “How dare you mention the iceberg, we are dealing with a sinking ship here!”

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Straight out of the Gun Lobbyists playbook. What You should have said There is No time like the Present.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Ok dinosaur.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP I think the whole nation is sick of people turning everything into a climate debate. My advice .. grow up and have some compassion for fellow Australians in trouble.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Accepting climate change and extending sympathy, understanding and real assistance to those affected by the fires, is not mutually exclusive.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP A disgrace to our Nation - a true Dinosaur.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Has anyone ever verified that it is *not* possible to provide sympathy, shelter and understanding while also asking reasonable questions about federal policy? Why are they mutually exclusive? Surely it is natural when faced with catastrophe to ask how to stop it happening again?

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP This man is so out of touch with reality he is a huge risk to farmers & rural communities. There is no doubt that climate change is happening. That's not arguable anymore. Sticking ones head in the sand like his guys is doing is absolute criminal.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP If this is the National Party understanding of climate variation as opposed to climate change, then they must also understand, by now, that farmers need to insure themselves against the bad years and not rely on government handouts.

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP No they need thoughts and prays, that’s what the holly leader is wanting us to do!

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP Thick as a solid state brick

The_Nationals M_McCormackMP I wonder if he realises that the average temperature increasing every year will make bushfires much more frequent and worse? Perhaps it’s because he’s a moron? Or more likely his whole party was paid for by coal companies 🤔

A local mayor can see we face a climate emergency, why can't the PM?Asked if there was any link between climate change and the fires, the Prime Minister dodged the question. Lol. God botherer’s don’t believe in climate change. Because the mayor is honest and not being paid by the mining industry to lie. We have a bunch of corrupt individuals running the country. More people will die and all they will say is “thoughts and prayers”. The country needs to STAND UP and NOT take it anymore. Revolution
