ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas has sought the expertise of Public-Private Partnership Center in Manila for the establishment of a waste to energy project at Calahunan Engineered Sanitary Landfill in Mandurriao district.
“I already talked with PPP Center and I was told that they are helping Quezon City and Manila. The former was about to be awarded. The PPP will come here to capacitate us on this development,” Treñas said. “I am also in talks with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on new technologies that will address waste management concerns. We are going to study if the smokey mountain can be mined to be used as fuel in waste to energy process,” he added.
The plan will provide a counter measure to indiscriminate trash throwing that pile up in drainages and waterways causing flooding during rainy season.
