A former Solomon Islands prime minister is upset Scott Morrison didn't address climate change concerns during his visit to the Pacific island nation.

A former Solomon Islands prime minister is upset Scott Morrison didn't address climate change concerns during his visit to the Pacific island nation. Rick Houenipwela says ‘it’s disappointing that it has not been raised because it’s a very, very important issue for us'. Mr Houenipwela says climate change is especially pressing because 'in my constituency, two large communities that were on two islands five years ago are now no longer’.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, who arrived in the Solomon Islands a day after Mr Morrison left for the United Kingdom, says if a country wants to step up in the Pacific, it needs to take climate concerns seriously. ‘If you want to be engaged here, the first thing you’ve got to do is come on a listening mission,' he says. ‘If that’s their number one concern, and it seriously is right across the Pacific, then maybe, just maybe, you should take them seriously.
