As the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, prepares for his first overseas trip since the Federal election, locals in Solomon Island’s capital, Honiara, have urged Australia to take a leading role to address the effects of climate change in the Pacific.

Mr Morrison will arrive in Honiara on Sunday and will spend less than 24 hours in the country, where he will hold bilateral talks with newly elected Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.The issue of climate change is likely to be a prominent feature of the talks between both leaders following a Pacific climate summit in Fiji last month.

“For us it’s more on our livelihood and our livelihood being threatened by extreme climate weather,” said Harry James. “These are our neighbours and we really have a responsibility to try and partner with these young nation states and try and help them deal with these impacts as best they can,” Mr Trundle said.

“When people in the Pacific look to Australia for leadership and partnership, they’re not necessarily looking for financial gain, but what they do want is levels of recognition,” he said. Mr Morrison will be keen to show Australia's promise of greater engagement within the Pacific region is more than just words when he meets with Solomons prime minister Manasseh Sogavare - who was elected for his fourth stint as the leader in April.The pair have spoken before but this is their first meeting in person.

Moving on to London, the prime minister will meet British economic and security officials before representing Australia at the 75th-anniversary commemorations of the D-Day landings in Portsmouth on 5 June.

Tell them you just approved a huge coal mine Scomo. That's what you think of global warming.

Pity the people of the Solomon Island are calling on the wrong person.

Scott Morrison is too scared to stand up to China. He’s like a scared little dog. Woof woof little China Dog Scotty. Show China how scared you are of upsetting them. Roll over little dog and show China your soft under belly so the communists can laugh at the good little Dog Scott

Outstanding record in this area for the LNP?

I hope they are not just dreaming

Chance=Zero

'Getting on with the job': Climate and Energy back in one portfolio under Angus TaylorAngus Taylor has been re-appointed as energy minister - he will also be responsible for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. That means shutting down coal mines and costing jobs and increased power prices. Compromising the energy of a nation is comprising a nations security and stability. Sad reality is it doesn't matter who does what as if they fail in their ministry portfolio they are not held (personally) accountable anyway. Too Easy Another top job for a white European-Anglo-Christian man again!
