Minister Charlie Flanagan said the planned new runway is warranted and needed

The minister was asked about plans for expansion of the capacity at the airport given the recent declaration of a climate emergency by Dáil Éireann.

He said that new facilities at the airport are planned under Ireland 2040 which has been approved by the Oireachtas.These latest e-gates feature flatbed scanners which will allow passengers to use passport cards.Dublin Airport is continuing operation of staffed booths and the e-gates have been introduced to help deal with increasing numbers coming through the terminals.

In 2018 there were more 2.5 million passenger arrivals through the e-gates; around 16% of the annual total. The e-gates use facial recognition technology and are connected to national and international watch lists.

You can't just stop developing the country because of climate change. Whatever we do or don't do won't affect climate change. China and India are the problem, not Ireland.

Meanwhile, SNN on Motorway, close to Galway, Limerick and Cork, on Wild Atlantic Way, with longest runway in Irl, is left to flounder, probably would be closed other than it's also a US Military base, crazy decision, but Govt policy to develope DUB at expense of the regions

I would of thought a second airport was the answer.

If the government is serous about climate action the new runway should not go ahead. But we know they only pay lip service to it

Yet more air traffic over the city. Great. Not.
