Australian entrepreneur and businessman Dick Smith says the push by both political parties towards electric vehicles is an example of 'tokenism.

' Both Labor and the Coalition are in favour of greater electrical vehicle usage in Australia, with the Opposition supporting a target of 50 per cent of all new car sales to be electric-powered by 2030. Mr Smith says right now, electric cars are 'twice as much' to run as petrol-run vehicles. He says the technology is 'great but expensive' and on its own will not address climate change.
