By JM Rieger JM Rieger Video editor for The Fix Email Bio Follow April 3 at 6:00 AM After denying the existence of climate change for years, a handful of elected Republicans now acknowledge that human activity is the primary cause and are calling for “innovative” action to address it.
Before heading the House Republican conference for six years, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers called the science around human activity and climate change “inconclusive at best.” Now she says human activity is at least “partially” responsible. And in 2011, Rep. Fred Upton , then-chairman of the committee with jurisdiction over the Environmental Protection Agency, said climate change was not “man-made.” Now he says climate change is real and must be addressed, while not explicitly acknowledging its cause.
Today, fossil fuel companies are curbing greenhouse gas emissions or calling for action to combat climate change .
Let's have real debate on free market based solutions (usually what we see from Republicans) vs. government based solutions (usually what we see from Democrats). Whatever, but let's make discussion about climate change a national priority.
Why would it? The climate has never stopped changing since the beginning of time.
Climate change?
no, con job, requires earth support, China, Japan examples of the biggest problem
I’m not certain republicans have changed their minds and clearly democrats haven’t either, given the recent 0-57 vote in the senate.
Oh yea, Mitch McConnell will get right on it 🙄
The question is: Are GOP proposals real or just a way to divert attention and undermine the growing consensus on the urgency of the climate storm we face?
What these people need is a simple lesson in earth physics and climate history. Man is not helping by speeding up the oscillation cycle but yet the warm side of the cycle will still occur in time.
The whole globe now thinking about climate change as a huge challenge, but in the meantime climate change can create jobs and projects if a clear plan created. No need to rush and the earth is still alive .We have to have long term plan that is different from continent to another
I think it’s changed Democratic politics. The GND proves the Democrats see climate change as a way to advance their social agenda rather than looking for scientific solutions.
Nope, Republicans are used to Democrats trying to do a money grab from the working class.
I love farting cows!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
We had Silent Spring when DDT was falsely accused of killing birds. Now we have silence year round for Renewables actually killing birds. Both Malaria and dead birds all for fake fears.
POTUS has said climate change is a hoax and that too much CO2 can't be bad because we are all carbon based life forms...others believe that only 'God' can effect the environment...with stupid fucks like this in the world I'm buying a big bucket of sun screen and 20cases of beer.
Maybe for politicians. Free thinking people know it’s a scam to control Americans. The climate has always been changing. Climate nuts pretend the US is it’s own planet. It’s 5% of the world and the UN reported that if the US emitted 0 carbon emissions, it would make 1/100% dif.
Yes, it has convinced them that it's even more of crock than they thought.

What politics? Republican politics on climate change is simply “Pray for Jesus to save us!”
Nah, but there was no realistic hope of that anyway.
Yes. They are the part of sanity.
Climate change is real and the Republicans will slowly get on board. What hurts the cause and legitimacy is the unfettered hyperbole that detracts from the reasonable message. That's the problem with AOC.
