A Melbourne mother who lost her son in an e-unicycle accident is calling on the Victorian government to introduce tougher rules for users of small e-vehicles.

He was an experienced e-unicycle rider and had made additions to his vehicle so it could go much faster than the standard 30 kilometres per hour. "He would hold onto you like a Disney character and not let go until he thought you were ready to let go," she said.Ms Barella said her son's e-unicycle was his primary mode of transport and he regularly rode it well above 30 kilometres per hour."You buy them. You don't have to register them, you don't have to insure them."

Ms Barella wants the government to mandate some level of training before people are allowed to ride e-scooters, e-bikes and e-unicycles on roads or bike paths."James' unicycle in the end was doing 10 times the wattage that it was imported ."
