Former president argues that denial robs world’s poorest of their human rights

Climate change

undermines the enjoyment of the full range of human rights – from the right to life, to food, to shelter and to health. It is an injustice that the people who have contributed least to the causes of the problem suffer the worst impacts of climate change,” added Mrs Robinson, who is chair of the Elders group of global leaders working for human rights.Speaking to the Guardian before the ceremony, she said her angry words were the result of seeing the impact on people’s lives.

Energy demand rose 2.3 per cent – its fastest rate since 2010 – and was met mainly by fossil fuels. That pushed global emissions to 33 billion tonnes, up 1.7 per cent from 2017.

‘We won’t solve climate change without carbon tax,’ Taoiseach saysLeo Varadkar emphatically rejected claims that the carbon tax would increase fourfold in the next budget. “There is absolutely no prospect of a carbon tax increase of that scale or anything remotely approaching it.” Don’t fall for this tax. Ireland is such a small nation, and without and large and unregulated industries its contribution to the worlds carbon footprint is negligible. Don’t get taxed to save the world 1/100000% and to make Leo look good. This is an excuse to tax people more. It’s the workers who are paying for everything will have to pay this as well. This Government has no vision - look how long it takes them to get a decision on the Dublin metro. They are useless! They haven’t a clue except tax the same people

Carbon taxes won’t stop climate change – we need more radical actionFossil fuels are already taxed to the hilt and most people haven't moved to electric vehicles for one simple reason - they cannot afford to, writes Brian O'Boyle. Before any of the taxes, we need an alternatives. Like train/metro to the airport and in Dublin (alternative for M50), developed public transportation, cheaper house clean fuels, cheap home electric car chargers and rates. Increasing taxes will not change anything. Neither will your 7 suggestions. Electric cars are not yet viable - long long way to go yet !
