Gas appliances now cost more to run than electric appliances, according to One Big Switch, Australia's leading consumer buying power Network. Households could save up to $9500 over the 12-year lifespan of appliances, but making the switch can cost close to $6000-7000 when adding up appliance and installation costs.Switching from gas to electric appliances can save Aussie homes thousands a year as gas prices overtake the cost of electricity. "There was a time not so long ago, when gas was cheaper for your cooking, for your hot water, but electrical appliances are now cheaper to run," Joal Gibson from One Big Switch said.
For those who can't afford a total switchover, experts say just swapping out a gas "heat pump" for an electric one can save households up to 60 per cent of their power bill. The Australian Capital Territory's government has already implemented a ban on new gas connections to start this year, and will completely phase out all gas by 2045.
That's crap, my old house had both and gas was way cheaper than electricity and having two separate bills is better, our bills each quarter were cheap and now triple of what they were having everything electric, not something I'd recommend, go Solar it's way better.

Did you research this, outside a press release? Add up the cost of appliances, the cost of installation, the cost of gas disconnection. Now calculate the annual running cost of your electric world vs your gas cooking, and subtract electric from gas. How many years to payback?

I dont belive this. My electric rate is about to go up 30% in March 2023. I dont think gas is that expensive. Where I live there is only electric, so far most bills have been in the $1200-$1800 range. Next month add 30% to that. I call BS on this 'electric switch' movement.👍🙄🇦🇺

Absolute wank, electric appliances are far more expensive to run than gas. Without Solar my electricity bill was upwards of $1200 dollars a quarter during summer and winter without hot water or gas cooktop and our gas bill was maybe $200. I call BS!!!!
