Energy Energy Headlines News

After crippling blackouts of up to 12 hours a day, Zambia has restored 24-hour a day power provision to local users, if not its neighbouring export customers. It does, however, have longer-term energy expansion plans in place

Zambian barbershop owner Moses Kasuma is just one of the small-scale entrepreneurs who were relieved at the government’s announcement late last week that it was suspending load-shedding. When two six-hour power cuts a day were put in place last month, he had to resort to e-bookings for his services.

In a departure from Kasuma’s first-come, first-served system, customers had to message or call him to book an appointment, as unreliable power supply ate into his usual operating hours. ..A subscription helps you enjoy the best of our business content every day along with benefits such as articles from our international business news partners; ProfileData financial data; and digital access to the Sunday Times and TimesLive Premium.
