on the front burner again Wednesday by proposing new efficiency standards for consumer cooking appliances.
The proposal comes just weeks after a consumer safety official at another agency sparked backlash from Republicans, as well as some Democrats, byThe proposed standards, which focus on energy consumption, would require that both gas and electric stoves meet certain efficiency thresholds. The“As required by Congress, the Department of Energy is proposing efficiency standards for gas and electric cooktops — we are not proposing bans on either,” a department spokesperson said in a statement.
It also said the proposed changes would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions tied to the cooking appliances. Richard Trumka Jr., a member of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, drew the ire of Republican lawmakers last month when he suggested in an interview with that gas stoves, which he said pose a “hidden hazard” in U.S. homes, could be banned. A spokesperson for the commission later clarified that there was no official proposal.
I thought this was a right wing conspiracy
Not that the department has a political agenda right? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Eventually people are going to have to get with the times & get ride of gas stoves
Pilot lights were always blowing out of the fire. Now most gas stoves are made with electronic sparkers that come on with the gas switch.
In my multiple decades long career in real estate maybe a hand full had functional CO detectors in the home when gas appliances are present. Re manufacturing guidelines is a must & mandatory CO detectors at time of install. Insurance companies now mail you new batteries.
I ❤️ My Electric Stove
Hello no get outta here
Gas stoves are dangerous because they cannot be shut down remotely.
Now the useless firepits should be banned.
Screw this.
