1:51Human activity is wreaking havoc on the state of the oceans around the world -- especially on marine life, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature's updated Red List of Threatened Species.

The degradation and loss of seagrasses in New Caledonia is the result of agricultural runoff, pollution from nickel mining and coastal development, and damage from boat anchors. Climate change also presents a threat throughout the dugongs’ wide range. About 44% of all abalone shellfish species -- 20 of 54 -- are at risk of extinction, the Red List states. Abalone species are sold as some of the world’s most expensive seafood and are especially vulnerable to poaching and unsustainable fishing practices.

The heat waves are also exacerbating disease, affecting the critically endangered black abalone in California and Mexico and the vulnerable green ormer -- another abolone species -- found from the English Channel to Northwest Africa and the Mediterranean. "Enforcing fishery quotas and anti-poaching measures is also critical. However, we need to halt the changes to ocean chemistry and temperature to preserve marine life including abalone species over the long term," Peters said. The status of the pillar coral, found throughout the Caribbean and as far north as Florida, has also deteriorated to critically endangered due to accumulated pressures, according to the list.

And Mayor of Paris Anne_Hidalgo in big troubles

There's no doubt human activities is really beginning to threaten other cycle of the habitat.

I think the public is fed up with such hypocritical articles. Your words are always the opposite of your actions. Amen, dugong

wait til they find out that fish eat,……..fish 😧

I guess being able to swim off Long Island if you avoid the sharks isn’t progress. Let’s keep working on it without decimating the human race.

Nobody is buying your crap anymore

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been reading this story since I could read and that was more than 50 years ago. Still don’t buy it.

- The massive amounts of plastics - The indiscriminate horrible commercial fishing - The billions of sea animals killed every year

gbibuildingco Dude where is my car?

Thank you for reporting on this !

Just wait until the data comes out about windmills

Can u put decency on the list of things man has obliterated.

Everything humans interfere with gets destroyed.

Especially China

Simple question: why would mankind ever think polluting the water we drink, the air we breath and food we eat acceptable?

If man made climate change is real then explain for this two million years ago (it was a lot warmer then now)

Ocean and Air Cancer

And we Go to space 🚀🚀 Why Shouldn't we be taking care 👇👇 here... Before we go up there Cousteau you know?

When will you report on TwitterGate

This state of affairs is already the opinion and perception of many. God bless you. Amen

I don’t need the international Union of conservation to tell you that.

Nearly 10% of marine life threatened with extinction -Red ListThe effects of human activity from climate change to pollution are 'devastating' marine life, with nearly a tenth of underwater plants and animals assessed so far threatened with extinction, the latest Red List of Threatened Species showed on Friday. Devastating, heartbreaking, we need to take care of the oceans. So if we only have explored roughly 5% of the ocean, and 10% of THAT sealife is in danger, that means 90% of what we know and 100% of what we don’t know is good? Idk I’m stoned Global human overpopulation. Shout it from the rooftops.
