The Senate, working over the weekend to pass a bill central to Biden's domestic agenda, was destined to work into the early morning hours in hopes of passing the bill before starting an August recess.
While the amendment was defeated on a 50-50 vote, it is likely to become a campaign issue, forcing vulnerable Democratic senators in border states, such as Mark Kelly in Arizona, to defend their opposition to the amendment. Other portions of the bill would reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 40% in 2030 through federal incentives for the manufacture and purchase of electric vehicles and other "green" energy, with the goal of lowering energy prices overall at a time of high inflation.
Democrats were united in opposition to amendments, fearing any significant change could unravel their coalition of 50 senators needed to keep the legislation on track.
Mark Kelley voted for 87,000 new IRS agents and against hiring any new Border Control agents. Bye bye Beijing Mike
Yeah more spending
