The Russian state-run energy company said supplies through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany would drop to just 20 per cent of capacity.

Thomson ReutersThe logo of Russia's energy giant Gazprom is pictured at one of its petrol stations in Moscow on July 11. Gazprom said flows would fall to 33 million cubic metres per day from 4 a.m. GMT on Wednesday — a halving of the current, already reduced level — because it needed to halt the operation of a Siemens gas turbine at a compressor station on instructions from an industry watchdog.

The European Union has repeatedly accused Russia of resorting to energy blackmail, while the Kremlin says the shortfalls have been caused by maintenance issues and the effect of Western sanctions. Russian President Vladimir Putin had foreshadowed the latest cut, warning the West this month that continued sanctions could trigger catastrophic energy price rises for consumers around the world.Russia had already cut flows through Nord Stream 1 to 40 per cent of capacity in June, citing the delayed return of a turbine that was being serviced by Siemens Energy in Canada — an explanation that Germany rejected as spurious.

Gazprom said on Monday it had received documents from Siemens Energy and Canada but "they do not remove the previously identified risks and raise additional questions." "The German authorities provided Siemens Energy with all the necessary documents for the export of the turbine to Russia at the beginning of last week. Gazprom is aware of this," it said.

Suck it Germany. There's blowback for yr pointless sanctions against Russia.

They scoffed at Trump when he told them this would happen. Energy security is more important then ever. Canada holds the solution to that issue. Social programs could all be paid for through our O&G. Health Care could be best in the world. canpolitics

Remember the sneering attitudes of these cud-chewing, snotty-nosed, euro-trash German prigs when they were warned by President Trump of the consequences of their reliance on Russian energy? But no more mean tweets.

Bravo. Those who blindly follow u s a I all )things, pay the consequences. (fyi canada)

How those sanctions working out? 😂😂😂

Have Russia and Putin thought that this only speeds up the transmission to renewable, leaving Russia and Putin in their gas dust (fumes)?

They need to cut it to 0%

I wonder when CBC will start referring to the TransMountain as 'The Canadian state-run pipeline'?

Good - Trump warned the Germans but they smiled and snickered - well that warning has now come true in Germany, only a cold winter will now stamp the Trump warning as true

Well, I guess that’s what happens when you war with the country that supplies your energy. What was the expectation?

Germany has to choose between manufacturing or heating homes this winter, they can’t do both. Germany better hope for a mild winter.

The silver lining is that it should push the eu to get off gas permanently far sooner

Good.

Good. They want to boycott Russion products anyway.

Reap / sow

People should realize the infrastructure to support shipping massive volumes of LNG to Germany doesn't exist. Most importantly in Germany.

The wind mills will save them

Green energy will save them

JustinTrudeau send gas Sir

They were warned, now they can go back to coal

The leaders of all these countries on their quest for climate change shutting down their nuclear plants, now realizing they don't have enough energy that they have to rely on a communist leader ... how stupid are these liberal leaders. All Putin has to do is turn off the tap!

Well what the hell did you expect? Germany eliminates all their fossil fuels for their climate change agenda that clearly has not worked for years. All Putin has to do is turn the tap off ... all these liberal leaders need to be put out to pasture.
