There will be rocky times ahead 'for the next number of years' on energy prices, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned.

The Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned there will be rocky times ahead for fossil fuel prices, as a result of new EU sanctions on Russian oil.that will cut imports of Russian oil by 90% by the end of the year.

Temporary exemptions have been made for pipeline crude oil, to allow some countries to wean themselves off more slowly."We are at a watershed moment in terms of the European Union's dependency on Russian oil and gas. "Side by side with the sanctions package last evening, we began discussions with the energy package... which is looking really to a more sustained and fundamental break in that dependency on Russian gas and oil.

"It is a watershed moment in terms of fossil fuels in general, which will make for fairly rocky territory over the next number of years in terms of pricing around fossil fuels. He adds:"It will be challenging, there's no point in saying anything other than that - it will be challenging"."One is looking at a different era now in terms of pricing around fossil fuels.

Mr Martin says any further measures to help people with energy costs will be made in the 2023 Budget.Main image: Taoiseach Micheál Martin speaking to the media during a special meeting of the European Council in Brussels, Belgium in May 2022. Picture by: European Union

The worst Irish leader we ever had. He is anti Irish who doesn't believe in Ireland being a sovereign nation

What does the price per barrel not reflect at pump? I’m sure last time barrel was current price pump was €1.40

It looks like we are the one sanctioned..

Germans just cut 30 cent a litre off fuel prices let's see what our government can come up with. There is no end of money for refugees etc. So let's see them up there game and give the people working day in day out a much needed break.

Has he ever any good news!

Meanwhile Germany reduced prices by 30 cent a litre and made all public transport €9 a month.

' Be more man than him. Eye of the tiger'

Not for the oil companies martin who make record billion dollar profits each year. we need politicians who care about the irish, not enemies of the state like this lad and leo.

It's not something you'll have to worry about when you have a state car and driver.

It must be great to have a state car and not have to worry about it.

Time yeah were gone

It won't affect him or any of the other leeches.

Sellout.

As per the plan.

What's he going to do for the elderly? Insulate houses now and get on with it. Forget grants and do it for free. Go looking for these vulnerable and sort it out now. It will be cheaper to do it for free now than wait for another crisis to hit.

' what are we waiting for, take us!'

The majority of the people didn’t elect you Micheal. You are doing your best by the Irish people. I’m in Northern Spain and there isn’t a Ukrainian flag nor a sniff of a Ukrainian person here. The people of Ireland need to oust you and your bought cronies from power!!

Only because his government is adding taxes .

Especially when Leo The Leak returns FFS LeoVaradkar

Is this all our elected leaders can do Warn us? Thank you. I am warned, now what?

Reduce tax and vat then. Take action. Reduce your revenue from it. Help people. E2.15 at the pump last night

All of our own choosing.... Picking a side in a foreign war, with the opposition being a major fuel supplier

Only if ye lot stay in power. If a country even needed a new party it's now.

So insightful,

Join the dots. There will be high energy prices because Ireland, like other Western Governments have placed unprecedented sanctions on Russia. ‘Standing with Ukraine’ will prove to be a very costly decision for all of us.

Ukros are collapsing finally, so now u have wasted billions of euros, put us in even more debt, made the country even more unaffordable and ur goal of weakening russia didnt even work because theyre even stronger now lol

Well if you get your finger out of your arse and do your job for your country instead of being a EU poster boy it may help .

And the parasites in charge will let you freeze rather than do their job.
