'I earned £1,188 in February, my total bills came to £1,603'

She knows she is fortunate that her family will help, and she keeps a tight rein on her spending, but looking at her budget from February it's easy to see just how precarious things are.

As well as her £595 rent, £94 council tax and the money for other utility bills such as water and her phone, Esme also puts £300 aside every month for her annual tax bill. But the tax money is what she'll dip into if an unexpected bill comes in, like when she had to pay for a new wheel for her bike after it was stolen from outside her flat.

The one thing she says she can't really cut back on is food for her dog Arlo. "I try to shop around online to get a good deal, but even with doing that I'm spending nearly £50 feeding her every month," she says. "I also have to pay pet insurance. If anything happened to her I wouldn't be able to afford the vet bills. All these things add up."Image caption,

As he gets ready to go to a local food charity for a free meal - something he does one day a week and likes to get dressed up smartly for - he explains that it means he's had to choose between paying his rent and heating his flat.

The poorer humans always suffer it's life and control

samanthaTVnews Morning, samanthaTVnews !! Have a blessed new week!! 😀

I don't know why people haven't said anything before about using housing as assets and Banking. They didn't because it benefitted them. They are lucky govt is in so much debt they wont want interest rates to rise so inflation will run rampant

Yep, Im similar ..... 👎🏻😫💔

Why are the 2nd family paying the grandparents bills they will have pensions

Poor and stupid…make more money honey

Try using second class stamps

Well time to riot and loot then. Grow a backbone great Britain. Fight for what u believe in!!!

Saving £80 a month on takeaways 😳😳😳. I don't spend that much on them in a year!!! I appreciate that many people are going to have a very difficult time ahead, but some need to rethink their priorities.

!

Been skipping leg day too.

Hello BorisJohnson

Join the club same for many thousands more

My daily life😒

For the weekly shop, she's been buying cheaper brands, and buying tinned fruit

I don’t know - sometimes I start asking the question of whether people are living within their means

Solution: earn more? Only snowflakes or millennials looking to their mommies have these problems! Learn to live on what you earn?

Can we stop telling people to skip meals as though that’s a perfectly normal fucking thing to do. It’s a fucking outrage!

This is nothing new in this day and age for a lot of people. It's a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario. Cost of living goes up all the time yet people these days are paid well below the living cost. England is broken even social housing is in crisis its a return to slums!

Cancel Netflix and chill....to death

Keep voting conservatives this is what you’re going to get

Please get a degree and a full time job. There are woman being raped in front of their children in Ukraine.

What kind of crap salary is that. Works out to £6.85 per hour. Is that even minimum wage?

Not really living if you do that same low paid job 6-7 says a week till you die while not doing anything fun or good for your wellbeing due to costs. It just seems like people are surviving till they die.

It's not gonna work out 🤣

Lol she broke broke 😂

But would have had furlough; self employed grant even business loan; we have had nothing so far. yet they still want more; they don't get it; stop spending like we have had to. Guess it us give them more money & there is only one place it comes from. (not a magic money tree)

So what’s her problem? She has money to spare after paying her bills. If she wants more money then just change job!

Reading the comments we really r regressing back to 19th century attitudes. Some amongst us who believe if youre struggling to get by then its your fault as if everyone in society can have a good job. Wait till winter hits and loads of people die from cold in modern day Britain.

Does that include cable TV, expensive mobile phone & contract. Need to prioritise spends and I’m sure there are things that are not essential. It’s necessity over luxury.

Meanwhile Laura Kuensberg is on £320,000 makes my blood boil DefundTheBBC

Why is Andrew “The 57-year-old lives off universal credit” not working more hours as a single man so he has more income ?

Takeaways - really?🤦‍♀️🙄. 3 kids🤔. Case of poor life choices, not a cost of living situation!

“She says that the seasonal nature of wedding photography means she finds it hard to balance the books.” This is a person who can’t successfully run a self employed business which is seasonal , if it’s not enough to live on for a year she needs another job

Sunak should be made to sit with some people whose fiscal situation is impossible. He should do with them the maths for all their income and outgoings and then tell them how to manage. Think he'd have trouble with that last bit.

And to think the electricity companies don't actually know what to do with the massive profits so why the increase this doesn't make sense 🤔

Well teach people how to cook in your spare time and get a job until such time you can establish a decent and regular base. Even take it to you tube and make income from there. Your income wasn’t £1188. Your husbands income factors into that and what about the parents?

I guess it helps if you get a £2,200 pay rise and you just charge energy bills and food costs to the taxpayer! Anyone got the John Lewis list? I need the taxpayers to buy me a new bed.

Many families had £200 disposable income left a few months back thats sadly vanished as of today with ALL the increases. Work to try and survive is in play for millions now people are in direstraits

She’s not skipping meals.

so they robbed ya? haha

Damn!!! This is brutal.

Think positive! You all need to lose a bit of excess weight, less car travel is both beneficial to body and the environment. Find out what people are during the war. Said to be the best diet British people ever had.

Whilst energy companies and multinational companies including the big supermarkets raise their prices and hand out big dividends to shareholders! Wake Up People! 😎

Ha ha ha, my mum ALWAYS told me…‘live within your means’….it’s done me well in life👍

Sadly she is not alone.

I think its about time schools teach budgeting and costs as part of the curriculum... Oh and common sense. I can't watch Live Well For Less on BBC anymore... To many idiots.

The BBC now thinks it is a law unto itself with no attempt at even a pretence of political neutrality in that it now regularly broadcasts/tweets misinformation which the leftwaffe feed on.

Is the situation really bad there?

EvacuateAUAFStudents

🤣🤣🤣 nice

The first family have a vanity business and are 'cutting down on takeaways' but have stopped buying fresh fruit The second again has a vanity job, yet clearly has a lifestyle she can't afford. How she has £1000 bills on top of her rent is beyond me The third needs to get a job.

Living beyond your means then. Either move or get another job.

Get a better paid job, there are currently thousands of opportunities, employers are screaming out for good workers and are willing to pay higher wages.

You really need to stop all this whining on and adjust your budget accordingly! Cut out all the luxury items and you should be ok! Focus on paying for food and fuel!

Or if you are a Tory, ask a Russian mafiosi to pay it for you!

I sense the housing bubble is going to pop in the next 18 months.

There isn't a UK cost of living crisis there's a uk Tory government crisis, their continuing ineptitude is astounding ToryIncompetence JohnsonOut67

How much does the other part of 'We' get? Wow! You have a car as well!?

The 30 year old needs a reality check.

BBC going in early with the scaremongering, you want to interview anyone who isn’t on the bread line? Like someone in a full time paid job like most of the nation

I am struggling with these examples first one He has a good income, you forgot to add child benefit for three kids, her income from SE and any contributions from her parents in the annex .2nd she is self employed already admits she is struggling as such her business is not 1/3

This is what you get for supporting the government shuting down the world and destroying the economy.

Brace yourselves… Tories with no compassion or understanding incoming

Why is her bills £1600? A month that's what she needs to ask herself and how much did she earn in January or March.

Try living on a pension

My electric at the present in 0.0kwh except4when the fridge clicks on. Should be running a door bell to but when I’m not home it gets switched off the mains. It’s completely tight. Don’t own a car and never will now. And gas as been limited to cooking and the occasional hot water

If energy bill is more than 10% of your income then either you are using faulty equipments or living a faulty life.

Because working full time and needing to skip meals to pay bills is an acceptable way to live. The system is broken and the government doesn't give a damn.

“The 30-year-old lives in a one-bedroom flat in Cheltenham which she shares with her Romanian rescue dog Arlo, and works as a freelance photographer and marketer. She says that the seasonal nature of wedding photography means she finds it hard to balance the books.” 🤷🏿

That's a good salary and lifesyle.

Meanwhile, in other news, the Windsors are doing their bit to help …..

“The 38-year-old lives near Grimsby in Lincolnshire with her husband Darren, a teacher, their three children and her husband's parents.”

Stay focused and ignore negative remarks, put downs or just not read

Funny how these stories never mention the telly tax.

Yeah same with millions.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Skipping meals wont do and going into debt is not OK. Need to look at how your bills can be reduced. Their have been television programmes showing how to do it. What else is there you can use to increase money Do your research and be very focused to find solutions, Good luck

Bull shit !!

Buy a calculator. That's what I've done. It works!😁
