The average council tax bill in 2022/23 will be £1,375, which is 3.7% less than the £1,428 paid last year, according to new government data

The average household in England is expected to pay £53 less in council tax this year as a result of the government's £150 energy bills rebate.

Use the table below to see how much council tax is in your area and how it compares to the average bill of £1,375. "While the overall amount of money from council tax that councils have has risen, the quality of services has not really increased, in part due to cuts to central government funding," he says.

As a result, the change in rates varies a lot between councils. This year, Band D council tax for two people increased by 5.2% in Sandwell in the West Midlands, the greatest rise of any English council. The smallest rise, in Southampton, was only 0.8%.The proportion of households benefiting from the rebate also varies considerably across the country.

With the £150 one-off discount - watch it leap in 2023-2024. And only true if people actually claim the £150 - some who don't pay by DD may not claim the £150.

Mine has gone up by nearly £80 🤬

Absolute codswallop! Mine goes up every year. It’s gone up again this year. The government must think we don’t look at our bills! 🙄

Take a look at council tax bills in County Durham. We are band C and are over £2000 as we were last year. The highest rates seem to be in deprived areas.

Ours have risen by 5%. The same amount as will be refunded for energy rebate 🙄

Mines gone up

And ask how many council staff have been made redundant, how many councils are cutting services, how much they had to spend on Covid measures over and above the amounts the govt promised and they did not receive. Don't fall for this propaganda.

£1400 for me this year (band A), was £1320 last year.

Mines £1700 and trust me, I don’t live an above average life!

Up 7%, no rebate 🤷‍♂️

Buzzing for my £53, will use that towards something nice 👌🏼 cheers RishiSunak

Only because it’s a vehicle for utility payments not because council tax has reduced

Mine has gone up by £72 a year.

I'm obviously not average then.

This is ridiculous, what happens next year without the rebate?

So how is mine up 8.9%? This country is a joke!

NE England up 5% Another pack of lies.

That's another lie from them. Ours has increased.

Our has gone up

Nope Portsmouth is up by 5%. Read the room.

Band B £1696 up £50+ no idea who makes up the figures

But still not 50% less for single person households!😡

And yet everyone's CT seems to be going up. Don't know what kind of BS stats they used to get to 3.7% decrease, but I also don't care. Bring on the local elections, and let's bring down these liars 👍👍👍

What planet do these people actually live on? Why do people believe this rubbish?

funny how these things are calculated, as far as i can see on my bill it's gone up 3.4% to £2400 as i'm band E - as we have skewed distribution we should be using the median, not the mean, but the mean is convenient to report the reduced rate

Which is also a lie. As mine has risen and way above the average. Stop lying to make friends.

But mines already over £1500.

So average energy bills up by around £1300 a year minus £53? Wow we can all sleep better knowing the government are helping families out!!!

blullshit really
