Irish people 'overwhelmingly recognise' climate change threat as 90% say country must act on emissions

Image: Alamy Image: Alamy NINE IN TEN people believe that Ireland has a responsibility to act on climate change and reduce greenhouse emissions, a new report has found.

Though Ireland’s share of global emissions is around 0.1%, it is in the top 75 emitters globally and was the seventh worst country in the EU for greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. But attitudes about climate action and its potential to benefit society were positive – 78% think climate action will improve quality of life and 62% think it will improve economic growth and create jobs.Minister for the Environment Eamon Ryan said that the research “shows that Irish people are well informed and understand and support the need for climate action”.

More than half of people were also worried about water shortages, flooding, agriculture pests and diseases and invasive species. That falls further to 37% for religious leaders, 32% for corporations and businesses and 24% for online influencers, celebrities or media personalities. 85% support or strongly support the development of renewable energy infrastructure like pylons or substations in their local area to help reach the government’s target of increasing the share of electricity that comes from renewable sources.Looking at agriculture, 30% strongly support reducing the number of cows in Ireland to cut greenhouse gas emissions, with another 34% somewhat supporting the measure.

Do you have more nonsense to spread?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣is that 90% of the green party definitely not the normal man on the streets D4 maybe

.1% global emissions are produced by Ireland.

Also bear in mind the carbon footprint of an ecar is double that of a regular car and the ecar will need to drive 300,000-400,000km to offset the difference. Are the battery powered ecar batteries going to last 400,000km. Eh prob not. Is it viable to replace the battery. Eh no

Yeah there’s a way to act and it’s not opening the country up to blackout by closing power stations BEFORE theres an alternative in place to take up the slack. Nor is it encouraging people to buy e-cars before the infrastructure is in place to charge them. 1/2

Heavily inflated number, maximum 50%, while the rest realise that we should be the last in the world worrying about the so-called “climate change”, as we’re a very green country & have other priorities: housing catastrophe, medieval public transport, healthcare, crime, etc.
