There are no lasting jobs in the renewables sector despite NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean’s insistence his new energy policy will bring jobs back to the bush, says Nationals Senator Matt Canavan. Mr Canavan said he is unsure whether the minister has actually ever visited a solar farm or wind turbine because it is “pretty much impossible to meet somebody” there as there are no jobs. The government’s Electricity Infrastructure Investment Bill passed the NSW parliament after 30 hours of debate.

The landmark policy will see $32 billion worth of renewable energy infrastructure built by 2030 by the private sector in conjunction with the government. Minister Matt Kean told Sky News on Friday that the policy is about “cheaper energy, this is about more investment, and this is about more jobs for the bush”. Mr Canavan said there are jobs at solar farms and wind turbines at the very beginning of the process, and when the equipment reaches its end-of-life.
