Achieving net zero emissions by mid-century would cost an estimated $1 trillion-$2 trillion a year of additional investments, or 1-1.5% of global gross domestic product, a report by the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) said on Wednesday.

The report said dramatic improvements in energy efficiency will need to be made; annual global electricity supply will have to grow four to five times to reach 90,000-115,000 terawatt hours and the annual pace of wind and solar capacity will need to be five to six times the increase achieved in 2019.

In addition, buildings, transport and industry sectors need to be electrified and hydrogen should be used in cases where that is not possible. Any remaining energy use should be decarbonised using carbon capture and storage and sustainable bioenergy. “There is no doubt that it is technically and economically possible to reach the zero-carbon economy which we need by 2050; and zero must mean zero, not a plan which relies on the permanent and large-scale use of ‘offsets’ to balance continued emissions,” said co-chair of the ETC, Adair Turner.China has the resources and technology to become a rich, developed carbon-free economy by 2050.

Problem: overpopulation.

Usa not involved bcs handed weapons to terrorist more important then anything else.

Mars went through a climate change but there weren’t any people THERE

sounds pretty cheap for [checks notes] sustaining human civilization

No, btc taking over!

CrypticalThinkr Can’t the Fed just print that

That’s 150-200$ per person per year. Doesn’t seem impossible given that it will be funded by governments and corporations.

What's your point? Trump gave that to S&P 500 companies.

Totally worth it.

Why would we do that? I'd rather spend it on the military. They create jobs.

We threw 6 trillion at a pandemic and all we got is 12% unemployment and 200,000 people dead. If managed well, 2T a years seems perfectly plausible.

>the annual pace of wind and solar capacity will need to be five to six times the increase achieved in 2019. Is that such a difficult task?

Yes, and the one percenters will have to pay for it because the rest, the working class, is broke.

Wake up America, the Satanic cult club aka NWO aka Globalist aka Soros aka CCP aka Democrats aka the UN are in place to destroy you...

And without the investment, it's likely all life on the planet will be completely wiped out in a relatively short period of time. I say it's more than worth it.

Or, we cud just become a mix between venus n marz atmosphere - dry and unbreathable 🤷‍♀️

And how much is spent in defence each year across the globe?

This is what Joe Biden thinks is achievable btw. He wants net-zero emissions by 2050 ( All we gotta do is spend half our federal budget every year for 30 years. lol Same guy says he won't raise taxes on the middle class btw. Do you believe him?

Cuando sea concreto es noticia......

To achieve absolutely nothing. Warming is a natural event.

Dilemma (-?): Continue to further destroy nature, the planet and yourself (for the sake of greedy units) or urgently take measures aimed at healing nature and social problems - ?!

Some one tell this to ofgem who seem to think cutting investment into England and Wales transmission network is the way to achieve net zero.

And the complete fucking of the third world all for the benefit and enrichment of the first....again.

We spend that much in trump tax scam alone

And doing nothing gets us all dead. TaxTheRich

About the same as global fossil fuel subsidies then.

How much will not reaching that goal cost?

In the grand scheme of things that is not a big number by any stretch.

All we have to do it liquidate Apple
