With both state and federal governments promising to fast-track high voltage transmission lines, landholders in the firing line are calling for better compensation.

To reach net-zero and bring down power bills, state and federal governments have promised to fast-track the delivery of high voltage transmission lines to incorporate more renewable energy into the grid.Thousands of kilometres of transmission lines need to be built across Australia to transition to renewable energy

But with thousands of kilometres and billions of dollars in investment needed, the farmers in the firing line are calling for a rethink on how the spoils of the transition are spread across the land."We already have some transmission line here and the new ones will be more than twice as tall," she said.

The transmission line is just one of many across the country in various stages of development that needs to be in place before the ageing coal-fired power stations go offline.Compensation lottery "Transgrid's preference is to achieve a negotiated settlement with landowners and only if this is completely exhausted will a compulsory land acquisition be explored. Any acquisition requires the approval of the Minister," a spokesperson said. But Christine Hughes said the amount she had been offered did not come close to covering the environmental and financial impacts of such large infrastructure across her property.

He would like to see a more "active" payment method to landholders, like a yearly sum to reflect this benefit.

'Renewable energy' transmission lines. As though coal-fired power somehow flows in a different way.

Coal powered power pole will increase the value?

There's been a transmission line from the coal burning plants in east Vic all the way across to the Portland smelter since 1982. It's hideous and the people responsible now admit it was a mistake. Bit late now but not too late to learn from. Go underground for the long term.

If she’s worried about selling her property then sell it now before they are built. These power lines are for the greater good of everyone. She’s being selfish.

A farmer said no to powerlines on his property as his cattle might of got cancer, Powerlines got moved to his neighbours land 20 meters from the place they would of been. He lost money and his payout on 4 towers. 20 years on its still funny

Cry a river, maybe that'll add some value.

all they need to do is to string along insulated high voltage cables on existing power poles

Well they agreed in the first place. Reap what you sow for a sugar hit. More of the renewables bullshit myth coming to light.

Imagine living near/trying to sell land near a coal-fired power plant continually spewing poisonous gas overall…I know which I’d choose. Farmers live with many environmental challenges including fracking and mining. It’s how it is.

You won't have choice, Australia is a tyrannical dictatorship like China now, you obey or get punished, never forget, Labor demanded and built quarantine camps they don't even use, or maybe they built them to be used as concentration/reeducation camps.

He has no choice. How di I know? We had 2 transmission lines cross our property. He can negotiate a settlement that includes conditions of access or take it to court and fight. That option should be extended to windfarms to reduce NIMBY objections

Dear , I know you are desperately searching for clicks, and fundamentally for some kind of relevance, but can you please explain the difference in a line that transmits electricity from a renewable source and one that transmits electricity from a non-renewable source?

Acceptable casualty of ALP policy

Out of town family are all for nuclear power. Image resale values with a nuclear power station in the vicinity…

Are renewable energy power likes somehow different to coal and gas power lines?

understand the fears especially if they're is in a nationals seat but as to re-sale if it's a bit windy there the opportunity for turbines feeding into the power lines and the rental revenue they provide would make the joint a drought proofed gold mine which can still be farmed

Wasn’t their land to begin with

The sky is falling…. Again (said Hanrahan)

Maybe don't have this

Look my naked photo ❤️😘

$1.2b for new renewable energy transmission, but farmers want compensationThe NSW government is budgeting $1.2 billion to fast-track transmission lines for renewable energy, but farmers say they want proper compensation if their land is affected. China love you Albo, you obey and be nice to China, now send all that money to China who make renewable with nice new coal power plant, you make China rich to build bigger and better military and ensure not smart aussie clowns be nice and obey China in future or else It’s their land — they should be compensated financially by anyone, who’s using it. It will be transmitting SFA except for blackouts and huge bills

With a gas crisis already on its hands, the government has just learned Snowy Hydro faces significant delaysThe signature energy reform piece of the previous government will not start producing electricity until late this decade, presenting another energy market headache for the country. bwahaha In theory by the end of Albo's term all of Australia's power needs reliably/cheaper 24/7, will be meet using only renewables , cause the only thing stopping this is the want to do it. auspol 'in theory' If you have a pool in the backyard then syphon it into a smaller pool via generator and pump the water back into your pool. And there you have it, free energy. That's how dumb the whole thing is.🙄
