Climate change means more people in the U.S. are using air conditioners. But this comes at a major financial and environmental cost

, more than 20 million American households are behind on their utility bills, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association , an organization that represents state governments to secure federal funding for energy assistance programs. What’s more, NEADA reports that the average cost for summer cooling between June and September was about $450 last year and is expected to be about $600 this year.

Every state except Florida and Hawaii prohibit utility shutoffs for medically vulnerable residents who fall behind on payments. Some states also have specific conditions for households with babies and the elderly. But broadwhen the weather gets too hot or too cold are uneven across the country. According LIHEAP data, 41 states and Washington, D.C. have blanket protections against utility shutoffs during extremely cold weather, but only 16 states and Washington, D.C.

According to Mark Wolfe, executive director of the NEADA, lack of protections aren’t the source of the shutoff problem , nor are protections an end-all solution for struggling customers . But during extremely hot weather,Climate Experts Are Testing New Ways To Reach the People Most Affected by Extreme Heat

“States decide how to allocate the funds during the course of the year,” Wolfe says. “And up to recently, states used about 85% of the money they get for heating. The problem is, we only have enough money to reach one of every six eligible households, and on top of that, we don’t have enough to help with heating and cooling bills.”

More people are using AC in the US because there's more people, more people live in the southern half of the country, more people can afford AC. Those are the REAL reasons.

Fun Facts.. The Northern Hemisphere is in a 55 year trend of.. ..INCREASING WINTER SNOW COVER. The Earth has been in a GLOBAL COOLING TREND since 2016. There were FEWER climate deaths in 2021.. ..than any year in recorded history. Most lame 'existential crisis' ever.

Hmmmm, where are you getting your data? According to ASHRAE the ambient design criteria for sizing AC equipment has not changed in over 50 years.

Lol. I’m sure all the good liberals are shutting off their AC and heat in their primary home and beach home (that they don’t sell even tho they claim the sea is rising)….

More people in the US are using air conditioners for one reason only and that is because they can afford them .

Dear Climate change propaganda, please go talk to LeoDiCaprio and all the other limousine libtards, and thereafter, volcanoes. Idiots.

Oh, shut up

Climate change effects our life severely

Hahahahaha .. you’re evil if you want to have modern luxuries

So, use nuclear power to generate electricity. If we need two nuclear power plants build three so we can rotate on and off line for maintenance. We are seeing thousands of agricultural farms turned into solar farms and fishing waters turned into wind turbine farms=food shortages.

We in 🇵🇰 are paying for your environmental sins; instead of destroying the environment further; sweat a bit, it is good for health also!

Maximum high temperature trends have shown NO CHANGE since 1900. Minimum temp trends have increased, likely do to human activity like urbanization and farming, not CO₂.

This is a lie. Human progress and wealth generation means that no longer do the poorest among us have to sweat it out at night. They can afford ACs.

Plant some trees for shade already

you're seriously still promoting this climate change nonsense?
