LAST Friday, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the Philippine Electric Power Industry Forum in Iloilo, organized by the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines , with the support of Iloilo's electricity distributor MORE Power. There were a number of interesting takeaways from that event, but before I get to those, I need to swat a figurative mosquito of annoyance that I discovered in the local Iloilo news on Thursday.
A painful experience, evidently; in his at times somewhat testy address to the PEPIF attendees on Friday, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that Iloilo and the four provinces of Panay Island lost about P500 million per day during the four-day blackout in January and suggested that not letting that happen again would be a positive step for the power industry to take.
