The first laws Labour want to pass include renationalising railways, investing clean energy and changing planning laws to build more houses

In total, 40 pieces of legislation have been announced in the King's Speech. This includes bringing rail services back under public control, setting up a new state-owned clean energy company and changing planning laws to make it easier to build houses.

Labour has also brought forward bills previously announced by the last Conservative government. This includes a smoking and vaping ban, setting up an independent football regulator and Martyn's Law, named after the victim of a Manchester Arena bombing victim.King Charles unveiled the new government's legislative agenda at the State Opening of Parliament this morning .
