BMW plans to resurrect an old nameplate as it consolidates its lineup of gasoline-powered coupes and convertibles.
But the 6 Series will appeal to upwardly mobile consumers who appreciate performance and luxury, said a BMW retailer who asked not to be identified. "Coupes and convertibles are the smaller volume models, but their performance-oriented character gains from electrification," Fiorani said."The remaining models in the lineup will be largely hybrid to lower emissions and keep the traditional BMW performance alive."BMW revived the 8 Series nameplate in 2018 after two decades with the launch of a coupe. A convertible and four-door Gran Coupe have since been added.
The 8 Series had the highest days' supply of any BMW model at the time, retailers told Automotive News. Production of the gasoline-powered 4 Series will end in late 2028, AutoForecast Solutions said.
