Already a subscriber?Jeanine Vany thought she was taking a big risk when she quit her oil and gas job to chase a cleaner future in a geothermal energy start-up named Eavor in 2016.
The target is based on the belief that new techniques will make geothermal more viable than in the past;, the new wave of geothermal aspirants like Eavor are drilling much deeper to depths between two and nine kilometres. “We use very little water, we use very little land. We don’t frack, we don’t cause undue seismicity,” Ms Vany said.
“The oil and gas industry is incredibly well positioned to lead in geothermal,” Ms Granholm said at the CERAweek conference.Jennifer Granholm is secretary of the US Energy Department.
