Letters to the Editor

People walk and run along the Bluebonnet Trail as the sun sets behind electric transmission lines on Aug. 21, 2023, in Plano.Re: “Heat will bear down on seniors — 1/4 of older adults may experience dangerous temperatures by 2050,” Tuesday news story.for recently casting a much-needed climate spotlight on extreme heat and public health. There is indeed an urgent need for policies to protect communities from heat.

It’s time for my state legislators, Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Allen, and Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, along with their fellow colleagues to acknowledge the problem and enact durable bipartisan policies to put Texas on a path to eventually end the release of excess heat trapping gases into the atmosphere and seize the economic opportunities in doing so.To ERCOT and our Texas government: Of course we understand that extreme heat and/or extreme cold present extra usage.

I know from personal experience that rate cases presented to the Public Utility Commission are a huge deal within a utility, involving months of difficult preparation work. Do rate change requests here in Texas require that much preparation and involve requirements to maintain the demand levels and service to the public?Anyone truly looking for solutions to the energy needs of Texas, and not simply to create a bumper sticker, will realize two principles: 1. All of the above and 2. All o’ y’all.

I’m a nationally recognized environmental advocate working over 30 years alongside Erin Brockovich, Environmental Working Group, Waterkeeper Alliance, Clean Water Action and many others. We all suffer, our efforts suffer, when ridiculously false information is disseminated.
