SEPANG: The police did not immediately engage the suspect during the shooting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 out of concern for the public’s safety.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said many questioned why the police had not immediately engaged the suspect during the incident.“If we engaged the suspect , it could have gotten worse. It was a public space where the shooting happened with a lot of people, including children,” he said at the KLIA district police headquarters on Monday .
When asked about the condition of the bodyguard who was injured during the shooting, Comm Hussein said that the victim was in a stable condition.The intended target, travel agency owner Farah Md Isa, better known as Farah Cie, was waiting for her clients' return from umrah at the time.Her husband, who police have identified as 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, threw a firecracker towards her direction, leading to injuries to passers-by, before opening fire at her at close range.
Her bodyguard saved her life but was shot in the stomach in the process.
