The rule change should 'empower' consumers looking to save money on their energy bills

Consumers can now take back £30 from energy providers who are slow to help them save money on their energy bills, thanks to a rule change by industry regulator Ofgem.

More consumers are expected to switch providers in the coming months as falls in the energy price cap bring the cost of gas and electricity down after two years of record levels, with the rule change pushing energy suppliers to help households switch to a cheaper provider. The energy price cap fell by £238 to £1690 for the typical household on April 1 - its lowest level since 2022.
