Seven electric cars with 0-100km/h times of under 3.5 seconds are available to buy in South Africa.

South African adrenalin junkies in search of cars with the quickest zero to 100km/h times have several electric vehicles from which to choose, with the fastest being the Porsche Taycan Turbo S at 2.6 seconds.

However, the lack of gearing can mean that EVs don’t reach the top speeds possible in the fastest fossil fuel-powered cars. However, it is the most expensive vehicle listed at R5,125,000. The Taycan Turbo S’s electric motors produce 700kW and 1,110Nm of torque. The R4.35-million Porsche Taycan Turbo accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in three seconds flat, and its motors produce 650kW and 940Nm.
