Opposition’s energy spokesperson responds to bombshell 2020 nuclear prospects report

Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O’Brien has reacted to a 2020 report on Australia’s nuclear power prospects, which casts doubt over the Opposition’s plan for the type of energy to be introduced in the country.

The report, which was obtained by Sky News, claims introducing nuclear energy in NSW would be expensive and difficult, involve finding tens of thousands of nuclear-trained workers and it would be “naive” to think a power plant could be built in less than two decades. “I stand with our peers, I stand with the United Kingdom, the United States, with Japan, with Canada and others who have made it crystal clear if you want to get to net zero and make sure energy is still affordable and reliable, you must have zero emissions nuclear in your mix,” Mr O’Brien told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
