Organisers have applied for planning permission to build a green energy substation linked to the grid to power the festival's main stage.Speaking on The Dave Moore Show, Melvin Benn from Festival Republic, said he hopes it will inspire other events to do the same.
"I wanted the Electric Picnic to be, not just the first in Ireland, but the first major festival in the UK and Ireland to actually get a power station in, get that mains electricity in, and set the bar for the rest of the festival world. "What I'm trying to do is bring renewable mains electricity, from the grid using renewable energy, which Ireland seems to be absolutely storming ahead with now, there appears to be plenty of it.Festival Republic says a successful planning application would allow them to build a substation in-keeping with the local stonework in a secluded area at Stradbally Hall.
"If this is granted, construction work can get underway in spring 2024 so that the festival is connected in time for the summer".
