The entry-level Model 3 has 220 miles of range per charge, top speed of 130 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, Tesla said. The base version doesn't include Autopilot or Tesla’s so-called full self-driving capability, though those features can be purchased later. A slightly more expensive version, Model 3 Standard Range Plus, is available for $37,000 with 240 miles of range, top speed of 140 mph, slightly faster acceleration and “most premium interior features.

"This is an important milestone for Tesla, but now that the tax credit is winding down, it might be too little, too late," said Jessica Caldwell, executive director of industry analysis at Edmunds. Currently, Tesla customers can claim a $3,750 federal tax credit for buying its electric cars, down from $7,500 in the past few years. The credit drops to $1,875 from July 1, 2019 and will be completely gone at the start of 2020.
