Thousands of revellers flocked to see The Wolfe Tones take to the stage for their first-ever Electric Picnic show on Sunday, with crowds packing out the tent as well as surrounding the outside some 50 rows deep.
The traditional Irish group have always maintained a steady following but this weekend proved so popular with the festival goers that many across social media asked why The Wolfe Tones had not been given a slot on the main stage.A spokesperson for Electric Picnic said: “The Wolfe Tones drew the biggest crowd ever in the Electric Arena with fans enjoying the music inside and outside the tent, singing along to every song.
Speaking to RSVP Live last week, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Brian Warfield explained that while the band were playing their first-ever show at the famous festival, they have always been popular with a younger crowd. “We’ve carried every generation along with us, including the young people coming up. We’re used to having a mixed audience. People from nine to ninety know songs from The Wolfe Tones.”
